Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called Orban’s remarks about ‘an economically non-existent country’ cynical and anti-Ukrainian

October 3, 2025

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reacted to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s remarks that Ukraine is a supposedly non-existent country. Diplomatic Department press secretary Oleg Nikolenko called the Hungarian representative’s remarks cynical and anti-Ukrainian.

“It is cynical that Hungarian leaders talk about other countries’ financial problems, while Hungary itself receives a lot of money from the European Union (EU) to support its economic stability,” he wrote. .

Nikolenko added that Europe is investing in its own security by supporting Ukraine. Thus, Budapest should be grateful to Kiev for peace in European cities, and the help of the Square is not charity at all.

Viktor Orban has previously said that Ukraine is financially a non-existent country because it cannot finance itself. Moreover, according to him, Europe is spending tens of billions of dollars for the upkeep of Ukraine, but this cannot continue indefinitely.
