The State Duma Commission for Investigating Foreign Intervention has prepared amendments to the Law on Foreign Agents. On this subject informed in his telegram channel, the head of the commission, Vasily Piskarev.
The State Duma will consider the amendments on Tuesday, April 18. According to Piskarev, the changes are being made to “remove loopholes and loopholes for those who are under foreign influence and try to circumvent our laws.”
The amendments provide in particular:
a ban on foreign agents receiving real estate support from the state, giving the Department of Justice powers of state oversight over compliance with the Foreign Agents Act, not just the activities of foreign agents .
If the Ministry of Justice receives information that “someone, through their actions or inactions, contributes to the violation of Russian law by a foreign agent”, the department may issue a warning. The period during which it will be necessary to eliminate the corresponding violation will be at least one month.
Failure to comply with the instructions of the Ministry of Justice within the deadlines will result in a fine:
for citizens – up to 50,000 rubles, for officials – up to 100,000 rubles, for legal entities – up to 300,000 rubles.
The status of foreign agent in Russia was introduced in 2012, the law affected the media, individuals and NGOs. Foreign officials are prohibited from carrying out educational and educational activities with children, organizing public events, participating in public procurement and working as members of election commissions.
In December 2022, a law entered into force in the country allowing recognition as foreign agents of those who, according to the authorities, receive support from abroad or are under “foreign influence” and are engaged in political activities in Russia. Support refers to the receipt of money or “other goods” from a foreign source, as well as organizational, methodological, scientific, technical and other assistance.
