Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Guterres was not happy to travel to Kiev to meet Zelenskyy

UN Secretary General António Guterres was not happy to travel to Kiev to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, The Washington Post reports, citing secret Pentagon documents.

“(Guterres) was ‘unhappy’ with the opportunity to travel to Kiev a few days later when Ukrainian authorities said Zelenskyy wanted to meet him in person,” the document said.

The reason for the UN secretary-general’s displeasure was not specified, however, according to an unnamed UN diplomat, Guterres, 73, had been on the road for several weeks, and a trip to the Ukrainian capital required a long flight and an 11- hour drive from Kiev.

The article also states that Guterres told his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, that he was “very furious” about the unexpected public ceremony marking International Women’s Day after meeting Zelenskyy and holding a press conference. spouse.

The UN secretary general said he had traveled to Ukraine to help, but the Ukrainians were “doing everything to eliminate us”. Dujarric later said that Guterres was “unpleasantly surprised” by the awards ceremony, but he denied using the term “windup”.

Earlier, a leak of secret Pentagon data showed the US was tracking UN Secretary General António Guterres.
