FT: Zelenskyy fears mobilization won’t save Ukrainian Armed Forces from defeat in offensive
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fears the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive, writes the Financial Times. The fears of the Ukrainian leader do not weaken even against the background of large-scale mobilization in Ukraine.
“In the winter, a major recruiting campaign began in Ukraine and posters appeared urging people to join the armed forces,” the publication reports. Journalists also write that Kiev “expects about 40,000 soldiers to join the ranks of the assault units”, while “leaders fear that they will not be enough”.
The article notes that an unsuccessful counterattack by the Ukrainian army will induce the West to bring Kiev to the negotiating table with Moscow, and this is precisely what the Ukrainian authorities fear.
Andriy Sibiga, deputy head of Zelenskyy’s office, said Kiev had no chance of being wrong at this “decisive moment”.
The Ukrainian authorities constantly speak of the imminent counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said it could start in spring or summer. One of the directions of the counterattack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is the Zaporizhzhia region.
