British military expert Sean Bell said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would be forced to accept the loss of territory as the spring-summer offensive ended in failure.
“The most difficult task for Volodymyr Zelenskyy is to accept the ceding of territory,” he told Sky News.
Bell also noted that US diplomats are trying to persuade Zelenskyy to take this step in order to reach a peace deal. He expressed his belief that the Ukrainian troops would not have enough strength to capture and hold positions, as any offensive would lead to the depletion of their supplies and also put them in an extremely vulnerable position.
According to Bell, the Ukrainian armed forces will strike, but by the end of the summer they will lose the ability to fight, which will become a condition of the negotiations.
On the eve of the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin said that the Ukrainian armed forces tried to go on the offensive in small groups in four directions, but failed to return the captured positions.
