India has cure for lifestyle diseases: Modi

New Delhi. Calling for universal healthcare coverage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India’s traditional healthcare systems offer solutions to stress and lifestyle diseases. Inaugurating the sixth edition of ‘One Earth One Health – Advantage Healthcare India 2023’ here, Shri Modi said that even when there was no global pandemic, India’s vision for health was universal. India aims at physical, mental and social well-being.

True progress is people-centric and no matter how much progress is made in medical science, it must reach the last person. India aims to make healthcare accessible and affordable not only for its citizens but for the entire world. He said yoga and meditation are ancient India’s gift to the modern world, which have now become a global movement.

Shri Modi inaugurated and addressed One Earth One Health – Advantage Healthcare India – 2023 through video conferencing. Quoting an ancient Sanskrit verse, he said that ‘May everyone be happy, may everyone be free from disease, may good things happen to all, and may none be afflicted by sorrow’. The Prime Minister said that India’s focus on health The approach was universal even when there were no global pandemics thousands of years ago. Our vision is not limited to humans only. This extends to our entire ecosystem. From plants to animals, from soil to rivers, when everything around us is healthy, we can stay healthy.

He emphasized that India’s approach to health does not stop only at the absence of disease. This goal focuses on well-being for all. Our goal is physical, mental and social well-being, he said. He said that medical travel and health workforce mobility are an important factor and ‘One Earth, One Health – Advantage Healthcare India 2023’ is an important effort in this direction. He also mentioned millets which are part of the traditional diet of India and have the potential to tackle issues of food security and nutrition around the world.

The Prime Minister stressed that the global response to health challenges cannot be in isolation and now is the time for an integrated, inclusive and institutionalized response. This is one of our focus areas during the G-20 Presidency. We aim to make healthcare accessible and affordable not only for our citizens but for the entire world.
