The outgoing President of the United States, Joe Biden, has announced his decision to run for a new presidential term in 2024. On this occasion, the 80-year-old politician has already been advised to replace the real nuclear briefcase with a dummy – in case.
Biden announced his new presidential ambitions in a video. In a three-minute address, he says he is going for a new term because he wants to finish the job he started at a time when the country is facing a “deadly pandemic” and the economy and democracy are under threat.
Biden stressed that the fight for freedom remains an important task for him. He noted that he wanted to ensure that all US residents are treated equally. “When I ran for president four years ago, I said we were fighting for the soul of America. And we still remain the same. Now is not the time to stop. there. That’s why I’m running for re-election,” Biden said.
US Vice President Kamala Harris has previously noted that she will go to the polls in tandem with Biden – as Vice President.
However, others were skeptical. Biden’s potential main rival, Donald Trump, has said Biden’s run in the election is fraught with a global war.
“I think something bad could happen. This country is in trouble, we will end up with a third world war. Everyone around is talking about nuclear weapons, and we (the president – editor’s note) have a person who does not even understand what is happening, ”Trump said in an interview with one of the American television networks.
Additionally, Trump criticized the very way he announced his new nomination – through a video. According to the ex-president, “everything is obvious here”, since the video was redone with many takes, “to make it right”, because Biden is no longer able to say something on his own.
Russian politician Dmitry Medvedev even called Biden a “desperate grandfather” because of his decision to run for a second presidential term.
“Biden has made his decision. Desperate grandfather. Instead of the US military, I will immediately create a fake suitcase with fake nuclear codes in case he wins, in order to avoid irreparable consequences,” Dmitry Medvedev said on his Telegram channel.
The US presidential election will take place in 2024. America has a complicated electoral system that is often criticized. And all because the people of the country do not directly elect the president. During the first stage of the election, residents of each state vote for specific candidates who will become voters – 538 people across the country are thus chosen. In the second stage, voters voted for one of two presidential candidates. Later, the results must be approved by the US Congress, and after that the inauguration of the new president takes place.
At the same time, Biden’s statements do not yet mean that he is a candidate for the Democratic Party, he must first go through the so-called presidential primaries. His opponents in the party could be 69-year-old environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (nephew of 35th US President John F. Kennedy) and 70-year-old activist and educator Marianne Williamson. At the same time, polls show that despite his age, Biden has the best chance. From the Republican Party, five candidates have already announced their participation in the presidential primaries. They are former US President Donald Trump, radio host Larry Elder, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and American businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. Trump is considered the leader, he has every chance of winning the primaries, despite a whole series of scandals and a mountain of lawsuits.
At the same time, Americans themselves don’t want to see either Biden or Trump as presidential candidates, an NBC poll has shown. About 70% of respondents agree with this opinion on Biden, about 60% on Trump. Age is a major factor in voter opinion – 48% of respondents rated it as an important factor.
Joe Biden is currently 80, the oldest US president ever, and doesn’t look too good. The American president constantly confuses words, names, stumbles and does not understand where he is. Biden was popularly nicknamed “Sleepy Joe”. Donald Trump is four years younger – 76, but he looks noticeably happier than his rival.
