The State Duma urged Russians to independently protect state borders

– Published on:

The head of the State Duma Committee on Defense Andrei Kartapolov suggested that Russians who voluntarily joined the People’s Squad should guard state borders, reports URA.RU.

“Now we have no such opportunities as in the Soviet Union, when the whole country along the perimeter was guarded by military units of the border troops of the USSR. Therefore, now there are somewhat different means to protect the borders,” he said.

Kartapolov explained that the practice of border protection by local citizens on a voluntary basis exists in Europe.

According to the MP, a proper decision must first be made, and then the requirements for this will be discussed.

Kartapolov also stressed that the country’s authorities trust residents on the issue of responsibility for the security of border areas.

Previously, the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, said that a Ukrainian saboteur tried to enter the region.
