October 3, 2025

Repair and maintenance centers for military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are being established in Poland and Romania. On Warsaw’s plans to open a maintenance center for Ukrainian Leopard 2 tanks at the Bumar-Labendy plant in Gliwice in May, Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak spoke on radio Polish.

Ukraine’s Leopard 2А4 and 2А6 tanks will be serviced and repaired at the Bumar-Labendy plant in Gliwice

noted the Minister.

He said he had signed an agreement on the creation of such a service center with a German colleague during a meeting of NATO defense ministers.

It is assumed that in Gliwice they will carry out repair work for a whole family of Leopard tanks and produce Krab self-propelled artillery mounts. Blaszczak added that the center will also provide a chance to expand the factory in the future and provide new jobs for local residents.

The creation of such a center in Romania had already been announced by the German defense group Rheinmetall. It is open near the Ukrainian border. Howitzers, German Leopard 2 tanks and British Challenger tanks, as well as Fuchs armored personnel carriers, military trucks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles will be used there.

The service center is expected to play an important role in maintaining the readiness of Western combat systems in service with Ukraine and ensuring the availability of logistics

— explained the representative of Rheinmetall.
