At the summit of heads of military departments of SCO member states in New Delhi, the defense ministers of China and India expressed their willingness to normalize the situation in the disputed border areas. The initiative in this matter was shown by the head of the Chinese defense department, Li Shangfu.
Beijing and New Delhi must resolve border dispute as soon as possible amid recent world events
- said the Minister of Defense of the People’s Republic of China.
His Indian counterpart, Rajanath Singh, supported China’s aspirations and called for no more clashes with border guards from the two countries in disputed areas. We are talking about the northern territories of Kashmir and the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.
The disputed areas cover an area of approximately 60,000 square meters. km, which is comparable to the size of Croatia, but there are no national borders. Therefore, India and China consider these territories as their own. The situation worsened in 2020, when clashes left many casualties on both sides.
According to Li Shangfu, the parties have not allowed any incidents lately and are keeping in touch to discuss the situation in the region. In a context of growing tensions in the Taiwanese zone, it is not profitable for China to have another hot spot in the west of the country.
Earlier, the head of the Chinese Department of Defense had talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu. The parties agreed to continue cooperation in the military field, and the Russian Defense Minister accepted an invitation to pay an official visit to Beijing.
