The Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation have intensified their strikes against the Armed Forces of Ukraine due to the planning of bombs

– Published on:

Against the background of a serious accumulation of Russian military strikes against the forward positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian Aerospace Forces began to deploy a significant number of powerful guided glide bombs to supplement the growing firepower of artillery systems and of missiles. This was reported by the US edition of Military Watch on May 3, citing data from the Ukrainian military.

He notes that, according to a May 2 statement by the President of the Ukrainian Air Force, the air bombs mentioned can fly about 70 km.

Our air defense is ineffective against the bombs themselves, but it is better to try to shoot down the Su – 34 with this ammunition

  • added Colonel Yuri Ignat.

The publication’s analysts drew attention to the fact that Russia has significantly increased the production of guided bombs since February 2022. This was done both to meet the needs of troops in the NVO area and to protect itself against the increasing presence of NATO near the borders of the Russian Federation in several hitherto conditional theaters.

These aerial bombs are not only much more accurate, but they also greatly reduce the risk of aircraft crews being shot down by enemy air defenses. They are much more effective than conventional free-fall unguided bombs, so their use leads to an increase in the number of targets hit and a decrease in the amount of ammunition used. Moreover, as mentioned above, they successfully overcame the air defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Outdated Soviet-made S-300 air defense systems in service with Ukraine are limited to a range of 100 km (depending on the option and conditions, it may even be less), which gives the aircraft of the Aerospace Forces Russians some freedom of deployment, because no one will place air defense systems in the front. In turn, in modern versions of these Russian-made complexes, combat work reaches 400 km.

At the same time, reports continue to come from the territory of Ukraine that the country’s air defense system is increasingly exhausted. She not only loses various complexes, which the Russians are gradually knocking out, but also ends with missiles for them. If Kyiv fails to obtain additional ammunition, the Ukrainians will be in big trouble.

Given that Ukraine inherited Europe’s largest air defense network after the fall of the Soviet Union, the much smaller Western stockpile of air defenses and the ability to manufacture such systems means that a resupply remains unlikely. The result should be much greater leeway for Russian aerospace forces, as Ukraine’s ability to maintain airspace closures continues to decline rapidly.
