Active training of girls under the “cosmonaut-researcher” program began in Belarus

– Published on:

Academician-Secretary of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Informatics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Alexander Shumilin, is convinced that both countries have great plans for the future. In particular, work is underway on new satellites. One of them with a resolution of 0.5 meters, then – with an ultra-high resolution of 0.35 meters.

  • The first of them as part of the Russian constellation of satellites will be launched in the near future, the second – in 5-6 years. I would like to point out that there are practically no technologies such as those that will be used in the construction of the second satellite in the world. And this year or next, the second Belarusian student satellite will go into space. Also, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is starting to develop so-called microsatellites that fly in a low orbit. They are used to test various technologies and monitor, including the area around nuclear power plants.

This year or next, the second Belarusian student satellite will go into space

The topic of creating a Belarusian-Russian satellite was discussed at a meeting of the working group on outer space. Now, to replace the preliminary design, said its co-chair – the head of the Aerospace Activities Department of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Academician Petr Vityaz, a working draft of the satellite is being prepared. The corresponding agreement was signed during the visit of the Russian colleagues. The project is implemented within the framework of one of the Union’s space programmes. According to the plan, the target equipment of the satellite will be entirely Belarusian, and the platform will be Russian.

An equally important joint project is the training of a Belarusian cosmonaut. Now there is an active preparation of suitors. From May, Piotr Vityaz clarified, the girls will begin to study under the scientific program on the basis of Belarusian academic institutions. First of all, it will be a cosmonaut-researcher. Then the candidates will travel to Russia for training on simulators. The Belarusian girl-cosmonaut will have to carry out a whole program of scientific research in the field of physiology, biotechnologies and biopreparations, in the agricultural sector, as well as test devices and equipment designed for work in space . The goal is to achieve meaningful results.
The Belarusian space industry, despite its relative youth (the first satellite was launched just over ten years ago), has already made a significant contribution to the country’s economy. Satellite information is used to predict weather conditions, forest conditions, fire risk, study climate change, predict crop yields, etc. By the way, experts say that the accuracy of yield forecasts obtained using spatial information is about 80%. The contribution of the BKA over ten years of operation to both science and the economy of the country is invaluable, underlined Petr Vityaz. Thus, the excess of revenue (that is, what Belarus earned from the launch of the satellite) over the cost of its operation amounted to about 30 million dollars.

Among the promising areas, the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov called the implementation of the national space program for 2021-2025, the development of the Belarusian space system for remote sensing of the Earth, the application the results of space activities for the benefit of various fields, including precision agriculture, digitization, cartography, the study of Antarctica, etc. .d. As well as the development of a national system of satellite communications and broadcasting, navigation, educational geodetic and aerospace systems, the development of new materials used in the creation of spacecraft, participation in international projects for the study of the Moon, Mars and other deep space objects.

Dmitry Mezentsev, State Secretary of the Union State:

  • Today we are well aware that without the development of common space programs, communication systems, fast access to the Internet, it is impossible to solve the problems that are posed to us, in particular, by farmers and surveyors . We also understand that to increase the defense capacity of the two States, to meet the security challenges of the Unionist State, we cannot do without space potential.
