Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili called Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to cancel visas for Georgian citizens a provocation and, in response, called for the Security Council to be convened to discuss the visa regime with Russia.
“Another Russian provocation! The restoration of direct flights with Georgia and the abolition of the visa regime are unacceptable as long as Russia continues (special operation – editor’s note),” Zurabishvili wrote on Twitter.
Furthermore, during the briefing, she called for the Security Council to be convened to consider the introduction of a visa regime for Russians.
“I urge (…) to convene the Security Council and consider introducing three-month visas (for Russians – editor’s note), because now is the time to express our position,” said Zurabishvili .
Meanwhile, Georgian expert Petrzh Mamradze suggested that Putin’s decision to abolish the visa regime with Georgia and resume air traffic would be “adequately” perceived by the country’s residents, as a large number of between them work on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which, from May 15, citizens of Georgia are allowed to enter the territory of Russia with an identity document, and domestic airline flights to the country are also taken back.
