And the presidency said that Al-Assad had received “an invitation from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King of the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to participate in the thirty-second session of the League Arab Summit Council Meeting, to be held in Jeddah on May 19.”
Al-Assad received the invitation from the Saudi Ambassador to Jordan, Nayef Al-Sudairi.
And last Sunday, the League of Arab States decided to restore Syria to its seat, after suspending its membership for nearly 12 years.
Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said: “Syria’s return to the occupation of the siege is the beginning of a movement, not the end, in the sense that the road to the settlement of the Syrian crisis will take a procedural step.”
He added: “Syrian President Bashar al-Assad can participate in the League summit if he wishes.”
The Arab League summit will be held on May 19 in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Recently, some Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, have resumed dealing with Syria through high-level visits and meetings.
