Omar added, in an interview with ‘Sky News Arabia’: “Millions of Sudanese are eagerly awaiting the talks taking place in Jeddah, especially as they approach their first steps of reaching an agreement on humanitarian and protection of civilians issues. The Sudanese look forward to seeing the war end and be resolved through dialogue, not arms.” “.

And he added: “What is happening in Jeddah is a step in the right direction, and we look forward to hearing good news as soon as possible.”

the first step

He continued, “Therefore, efforts must first stop this deterioration and then take a second step.”

Regarding the next steps, he said: “The agreement on humanitarian issues and the protection of civilians is a prelude to other steps, represented by a permanent ceasefire, then a comprehensive political solution that addresses all issues.

What guarantees?

Asked about the “guarantees” for the continuation of the ceasefire that could result from the Jeddah talks, and that it does not collapse like the truces that preceded it, he replied: “Guarantees are a mix of a number of things First, the presence of the necessary will among the army leaders and the rapid support to find a peaceful solution, and I see that their commitment is The Jeddah talks are proof of that.

He added: “The second guarantee is the broad popular desire to end this war. There is also a major international role in finding monitoring guarantees for the success of this process, so that it is better than what preceded it.

basis for a political solution

Omar said that “what happened on April 15 (the beginning of the clashes) will have an impact on the future of the political solution in Sudan”.

He continued, “But the political solution has pillars, namely how to preserve the stability and sovereignty of Sudan, and how to withdraw the army from the political process and the transition to democratic rule. Any political solution must lead to a unified national army and speak clearly about how to dismantle the defunct regime. It must address more clearly the political solution to these points.
