This decision, which must be taken at the G7 summit in Hiroshima from May 19 to 21, should prevent the resumption of Russian gas exports to Poland and Germany. Gas deliveries from Moscow to these areas were actually stopped last year.
The publication clarified that the sanctions may affect, among others, the northern section of the Druzhba pipeline, which supplies oil refineries in Poland and Germany.
In this way, the West is trying to increase pressure on Moscow and obtain guarantees that Russia will not be able to increase energy revenues. An official who spoke on condition of anonymity told the FT that the decision was made to ‘ensure partners don’t change their minds in the hypothetical future’ (quoted by RIA News ).
Recall that earlier Bloomberg reported that the European Union had offered to suspend the supply of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline to Germany and Poland. However, exceptions can be made for Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
