The European Union and the G7 countries have decided to completely ban Russian gas pipeline supplies as part of the 11th sanctions package, writes the Financial Times newspaper.
The decision will be taken at the G7 summit, which will be held from May 18 to 21 in Hiroshima. By this, they want to stop the resumption of gas supplies from Russia to Poland and Germany, which Moscow actually stopped last year. In addition, the publication claims that the sanctions could affect, among others, the northern section of the Druzhba pipeline, which serves the needs of Polish and German oil refineries.
These measures are intended to increase pressure on the Kremlin to ensure that Russia cannot increase its energy revenues. According to an unnamed source at the newspaper, the initiators of the new bans want to prevent their own partners from changing their minds about Russia and its energy purchases in the hypothetical future.
