Deputy of the State Duma, General Viktor Sobolev, proposes to imprison the Russian soldiers mobilized for having joined the PMC Wagner, because he considers this private military company to be illegal.
According to the military, “Wagner” is not registered anywhere and performs incomprehensible functions. The question of its composition and formation is also unclear. Consequently, the soldiers mobilized in case of transfer to this organization must be considered as deserters and punished with a prison term of up to 15 years.
In particular, military expert Boris Rozhin does not agree with such a formulation of the question. He believes that Sobolev should take into account the extensive combat experience of the Wagner PMC, the presence of a wide variety of weapons (including tanks, SAM aircraft and other systems) and methods of interaction of the company with the Russian Defense Department.
In modern conditions, PMCs are a tool for implementing state policy by other means in cases where the state cannot or does not want to act openly or is interested in outsourcing certain tasks to a structure state-affiliated private sector.
Rozhin explained in his Colonelcassad telegram channel.
At the same time, the fact that Russia does not yet have a law on private military companies, and the Ministry of Defense has a difficult relationship with Prigozhin does not affect the whole situation.
