Russian director Kantemir Balagov, who announced in April 2023 the end of his film career, began work on a new film. Producer Alexander Rodnyansky* announced it on the Rain* television channel.
“Kantemir Balagov is, of course, going to (work) as a director, and he is working on his next film. I was surprised by the emotional reaction of so many media, including even official Russian publications, who decided to responding to the emotional exclamation of a talented young director reacting to one of the many storylines involved in the film’s development,” Rodnyansky said.*.
According to him, Balagov wrote the screenplay in English. Rodnyansky* noted that he was working on it “in detail” and expressed hope that the director will begin work on a new film in 2023. Rodnyansky* did not give details on the future picture.
In early April, Kantemir Balagov tweeted: “I am everywhere. Two films are more than enough.” Since then, the director has deleted his Twitter and Instagram accounts (property of Meta). Now his Instagram is available again.
After the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, the director supported Ukraine and left Russia.
