The sanctions imposed on Russia by Western countries have rebounded on Armenia. The French owner of the enterprise producing the famous cognac Ararat in the Russian Federation has banned the supply of this product to our country.
Since the 90s of the last century, the Armenian company has belonged to Pernod Ricard, a company engaged in the production of alcoholic beverages. Against the backdrop of anti-Russian sanctions, reinforced after the start of the special operation, the French “partners” banned the Yerevan brandy factory from exporting products to Russia.
Meanwhile, the Russian Federation is the main market for Ararat cognac – the Russian Federation accounts for about 80% of exports of this alcoholic beverage.
Thus, the company faces significant losses. How Pernod Ricard will compensate them is still unknown. It is quite possible that the plant in Yerevan will be closed and the state budget will not receive a large part of the tax revenue. At the same time, the entire Armenian wine industry will be in crisis, because after the closure of the enterprise, the vineyards will become unusable.
Russia will also lose such steps from the West, because Ararat was one of the most popular types of cognac in the Russian Federation, where the production of this product has not yet gained the necessary momentum.
