Italy will send 3,400 troops in 2023 to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank. This was stated by Defense Minister Guido Crosetto at a joint meeting of the Defense and International Affairs Committees of both chambers of the Italian Parliament.
He specified that Italy would continue to participate in the initiatives implemented on NATO’s eastern flank.
“The commitments are significant and foresee a total workforce of 3,400 people by 2023,” Corriere della Sera said.
Crosetto noted that in terms of technology, this means 600 assets, including five sea units and 30 air units. As specified, the ministry’s plans include the deployment of a vessel in the Baltic Sea, which has the air and missile defense capabilities “as a contribution to strengthening the airspace of Poland and the Euro-Atlantic region. “.
