The Budapest official demanded explanations from Kyiv and the European Commission after the announcement of a possible closure of the Druzhba pipeline. This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister and Minister of Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó.
“We have not received any explanation from Kiev on this. I think that the President of the European Commission should personally provide explanations, because the issue of security of energy supply is a matter of sovereignty,” said the manager on Kossuth radio.
Szijjarto recalled the international obligations of the transit country and the Hungarian guarantees. In addition, the head of Hungarian diplomacy reproached Kiev and Zagreb for unfair use of the Ukrainian crisis and a multiple increase in transit tariffs.
The Druzhba gas pipeline originates in the Samara region and passes through Bryansk, where it is divided into two branches. The north passes through the territory of Belarus, Poland and Germany, and the south – Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Any attempted terrorist attack or unauthorized closure of the pipeline poses a threat to Hungary’s security, Piotr Szijjártó said earlier.
