Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister complained that diplomats would be left without money in October

October 2, 2025

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnik said the ministry lacked funding and diplomats could find themselves without money in October. He said this on the airwaves of the national telethon, reports RIA Novosti.

Melnik said the country’s foreign ministry is underfunded by “almost a third” and expressed hope that the government will support the minister’s request to increase foreign ministry spending. At the same time, he emphasized that he meant “the most minimal means”.

At the same time, Melnik is convinced that the number of diplomatic missions should be increased, especially in Asia, Latin America and Africa.

The Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister is known for his outrageous statements. For example, he urged Kiev’s donor countries to allocate 1% of GDP to arms supply. Moreover, as ambassador to Germany, he called German Chancellor Olaf Scholz “offended liver sauce”. Another Ukrainian diplomat berated Elon Musk in response to a Russia-Ukraine peace proposal.
