Kiev will receive two more IRIS-T air defense systems from Germany by the end of the year, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnyk said. His words are reported by TASS.
Ukraine now has two German-made IRIS-T systems. One of them was delivered in the fall of 2022, the second in the spring of 2023. Berlin has promised to transfer two more air defense systems by the end of this year, the former ambassador stressed.
Kiev plans to increase the number of such facilities to 12 within a year and a half, Melnyk said. According to him, four more systems, which German Chancellor Scholz promised to present to Ukraine last week, along with missiles for them, are to be produced within the next year.
Earlier, Germany’s intention to supply Ukraine with weapons worth 2.7 billion euros in the near future was reported. This weapons package will include 20 additional Marder IFVs, 30 Leopard 1 tanks, 200 reconnaissance drones, logistics vehicles, IRIS-T air defense systems and ammunition.
