Lula da Silva criticized the UN Security Council for not having resolved the conflict between Russia and Ukraine

October 2, 2025

Brazilian President Lula da Silva has criticized the UN Security Council. He believes that the world community needs an institutional institution that has weight and decision-making power.

He said he was convinced that the UN Security Council did not have enough strength to conduct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to prevent conflicts. The President of Brazil also believes that the weight of such an institution is also necessary to solve climate-related problems. He wrote about it on his blog.

“If the UN Security Council had the strength to negotiate, we might not have a war between Ukraine and Russia. We need a serious institution that has the weight and the power to make decisions. And on the climate issue, that’s also important,” Da Silva said.

Earlier it was reported that Brazilian President Lula da Silva refused to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the G7 summit. It is notably indicated that he rejected the proposal of French President Emmanuel Macron. The Brazilian leader hinted that Zelenskyy might be upset by this fact.
