According to him, on June 4, two mechanized brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to attack from five directions, but were unsuccessful and lost 300 servicemen.
On June 5, the Ukrainian army tried to advance with five brigades in seven directions, but was stopped, Shoigu claims.
“(The enemy) suffered even more tangible losses: more than 1,600 military personnel, 28 tanks, including eight Leopards and three AMX-10 wheeled tanks, 136 units of other military equipment, including 79 foreign ones,” said the Minister of Defence. .
In just three days, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost up to 3,715 servicemen, Shoigu said. In addition, according to him, Kyiv lost 52 tanks, five planes, two helicopters, 53 drones, 207 armored combat vehicles, 134 vehicles and 48 field artillery pieces.
“Unfortunately, we did not do without our losses. In total, during the repulsion of the enemy offensive in the joint grouping of troops, 71 servicemen were killed, 210 were wounded, ”- informed Shoigu.
He added that 15 tanks, nine infantry fighting vehicles, two vehicles and nine guns were hit.
Earlier, The New York Times, citing unnamed US officials, wrote that Ukraine most likely launched a counteroffensive. Sources said that military satellites with infrared equipment “have recorded an increase in movements from Ukrainian army positions”.
One of the publication’s interlocutors said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an “initial attack” in order to determine the positions and number of Russian troops, reconnaissance in force would last for several days, during which time the main leadership of the counter-offensive could be determined.
