Water from the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station flooded the town of Aleshki. Evacuation of people is hampered by fires and shelling

Kyiv, Ukraine – The town of Alyoshki in the Kherson region is “almost completely flooded” after the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, and forest fires caused by shelling are approaching. About it in his telegram channel said the head of the region Andrey Alekseenko.

According to him, the current situation in Aleshki is the most difficult of all other settlements in the Russian-controlled region. A rescue operation is underway there, coordinated by the head of the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ivan Pavlenko.

Alekseenko stressed that it is possible to get people out of Aleshki only on special high-capacity cross-country vehicles, so all available Ural and KamAZ trucks were sent there. In addition, boats of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are delivered from Crimea to evacuate residents of the city.

“In total, more than 100 buses have been assembled in coastal areas to evacuate people. In the secure camps, 5,000 places are being prepared to accommodate the evacuees. As it fills up, we will open new TACs,” said the head of the region.

The rescue operation, he said, is complicated by communication problems. In an interview with RT Alekseenko declared that the Ukrainian armed forces prevent the evacuation of the population, constantly shelling the city of Golaya Pristan from Gradov. One of the shots was inflicted during the shooting.

Humanitarian aid will be sent urgently to the areas affected by the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station through the UN, promised Secretary-General António Guterres in his statement on the current situation.

“At least 16,000 people have already lost their homes and access to clean, safe drinking water is at risk for thousands more. The UN and its humanitarian partners are rushing to provide assistance in coordination with the Ukrainian government, including the provision of drinking water and water purification tablets, as well as other essential aid,” said the Secretary-General in a press release.

At 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on June 6, an unscheduled meeting of the UN Security Council is due to be held, related to the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, informed RIA Novosti on Telegram citing a Security Council source.
