Thane (Maharashtra). Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday performed the ‘bhoomi pujan’ of the temple being built on 10 acres of land allotted to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust by the state government.TTD administers the ancient Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala in Tirupati. .

An official of the TTD Trust said that the Maharashtra government has allotted 10 acres of land for the temple of Lord Balaji at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai. It will be a replica of the temple at Tirumala. Among those present during the ‘bhoomi pujan’ on Wednesday were Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Raymond Company Chairman and Managing Director Gautam Singhania, TTD Trust Board Chairman Y. V. Subba Reddy and its executive officer A. V. Dharma Reddy were involved.

Subba Reddy said the temple would be built at a cost of Rs 70 crore and Singhania would bear the entire cost and the construction would be completed within two years. He said following a request from the Maharashtra chief minister, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had asked TTD to build a temple of Lord Venkateswara on the lines of Tirumala.The Chairman of the TTD Board, Chief Minister Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and former Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray, took the initiative to allot land for the purpose of the temple. Shinde, in his address, said that the temple would become a medium to fulfill the aspirations of thousands of devotees who want to visit Tirumala but could not go there due to some reason. He assured all possible support from the state government for the temple.Shinde said that Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis has got some necessary approvals from the Center for the temple project. He said, “All obstacles have been removed and today is a day of happiness.” Expressed that the temple will boost the economy of Navi Mumbai.
