The statement called on all parties to coordinate their national efforts as part of the common commitment to achieve the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, including continued efforts to maintain the possibility of achieving the goal. prevent the rise in global temperature from exceeding 1.5 degrees. Celsius, in accordance with the commitments made at the COP26 conferences in Glasgow and COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, and the results of the latest scientific reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Al-Jaber said: “Europe and the European Union are already playing a leading role in supporting ambitious climate action, and they will be a reliable and key partner at COP28. I am glad that the Commission European Union supports the call of the COP28 presidency to triple the production capacity of renewable energy sources by 2030.”

The statement also indicated the need to activate the financing mechanisms to deal with loss and damage and the fund designated for this purpose, supporting the full implementation of the plan to fulfill the commitment to provide the amount of 100 billion US dollars, doubling “adaptation” funding from 2019 levels as soon as possible, and fulfilling obligations to existing funding institutions, such as the Green Climate Fund.

The statement underlined the importance of the role of both parties in supporting real and tangible progress in developing the performance of international financial institutions and multilateral development banks, in order to attract more climate finance from all sources to meet to the needs of developing countries to start working towards a transition in the energy sector.

He also indicated the need to move forward towards achieving a logical, practical, gradual and just transition in the energy sector, which includes increasing renewable energy production capacity, defining policies and providing the necessary investments for the transition to emission-free energy systems, while ensuring energy security and access to it at a reasonable cost.

The joint statement reaffirmed the cooperation of both parties to ensure that relevant parties give maximum support to COP28 to achieve the 2030 global targets of tripling generation capacity from renewable energy sources and doubling the energy efficiency, in addition to supporting efforts to double clean hydrogen production by facilitating transit trade, so that these goals support the transition to zero-emission energy systems.

The European Commission affirmed its support for the initiative of the COP28 Presidency to allocate a day to health, and to hold a ministerial conference on health and climate for the first time in the history of the conference.

Both sides stressed the importance of upcoming political stations to achieve this goal, including the New Global Financial Compact Summit on June 22-23, the Ministerial Conference for Climate Action on July 13-14, the Ministers’ Meeting energy of the G20 on July 22. , and the G20 Environment and Climate Ministers’ Meeting on July 28, the G20 Leaders’ Summit on September 9-10, the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit on September 20 and various other regional policy forums within this framework around the world.
