A humanitarian catastrophe.. Two sisters die of starvation in their house in Khartoum

– Published on:

According to a local resident, the two sisters struggled to get out of the house after running out of clean water and food, which led to their tragic deaths.

find security

In effect; Neighborhoods in the center of Khartoum, near the areas of clashes around the airport, the general command of the army and several other vital places, were living in serious humanitarian conditions.

While tens of thousands of residents of these areas have been able to move to other safer areas, hundreds have faced great difficulty in leaving their homes due to the serious deterioration of the security situation.

Most of these neighborhoods have turned into ghost towns after around 95% of their inhabitants have abandoned them. But the rest of those who stayed home were exposed to unprecedented human tragedies. Where some of them died and no one was found to bury them, and some lay under the rubble for days until their bodies smelled bad.

Last month, guards at one of the buildings in the Al-Amarat neighborhood were startled by a smell emanating from a nearby building, only to find it was the body of Doctor Majdouline, one of Sudan’s most famous anesthesiologists, who had been under rubble for more than 3 days after his house was bombed.

For the fifty-fifth consecutive day, most of the central districts of Khartoum remained without water or electricity. It is almost completely devoid of movement in light of a state of extreme terror and fear in these neighborhoods which were, before the war, one of the most vital areas of the Sudanese capital, as it was considered the seat more than 80% of diplomatic missions and international organizations operating in the country.

shock

Businessman Khaled Saleh, one of the former residents of the neighborhood, expresses the great shock that has happened to him and his neighbors. He told Sky News Arabia: “We did not expect such a tragic fate. our youth.”

“Even our neighbors who died, we couldn’t bury their bodies,” he added.

Saleh points out that neighborhoods near army headquarters, the airport and military areas have become some of the most dangerous areas people can live in in light of the current war.

death and looting

Lawyer and community activist Rana Abdel Ghaffar holds both sides in the fighting and the international community responsible for the humanitarian tragedies unfolding in central neighborhoods of Khartoum and other areas.

Abdel Ghaffar told Sky News Arabia: “It is strange that the response to the humanitarian situation has remained absent, despite the great tragedies resulting from the war, which has completed its eighth week, leaving a large number of civilians dead and the systematic looting of their properties and homes. »

Abdel-Ghaffar stresses that the death of the two sisters is only part of the serious human suffering that the people of Khartoum are facing without receiving the necessary attention from both sides of the fighting and the international community. as she said.

Along with the deaths of the two sisters, Zepervent and Zephyr, a one-day truce came into effect; But many Khartoum residents fear a new round of fighting and indiscriminate shelling of residential areas, prompting tens of thousands to leave Khartoum in the early hours of the truce.
