How Volodin, Zakharova, Medvedev and Patriarch Kirill reacted to Prigozhin’s “mutiny”

– Published on:

On June 23, Yevgeny Prigozhin accused the Ministry of Defense of a missile attack on the rear positions of the Wagner PMC. The ministry called it an “informational provocation”. President Vladimir Putin has declared an “armed rebellion”. What Russian officials and politicians say about what is happening can be found in Russian media’s material.

Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma:

“Deputies of the State Duma, representing the interests of the citizens of the Russian Federation, advocate the consolidation of forces, support President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, our Supreme Commander-in-Chief. Wagnerian fighters must make the only right choice: to be with their people, on the side of the law, to protect the security and future of the homeland, to follow the orders of the Supreme Commander. Everything else is a betrayal!

Valentina Matvienko, President of the Federation Council:

“In the Council of the Federation – the chamber of regions – there is the full support of the President – the guarantor of the Constitution – and a clear understanding of the importance in the current situation of the responsible and consolidated position of the whole of society, residents and management of all subjects of the Federation without exception.”

Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry:

“We have a commander-in-chief. Not two, not three. One. And he urged everyone to unite. That’s the main thing now. We all have our own attitude towards everything. But there are times in history when a person’s personal needs must be put aside for later. Even if you think you are 100% right. For what? Yes, because if we don’t unite now, if everyone is for themselves or for their own vision of the situation, nothing will matter. Unit only. Unit under the banner of the Commander-in-Chief.

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia:

“Now the most important thing to defeat the enemy outside and inside, who is thirsty to tear our homeland apart, to save our state, is to rally around the president, the supreme commander of the country’s armed forces. Split and betrayal – the path to the greatest tragedy, a universal catastrophe.

Ramzan Kadyrov, leader of Chechnya:

“What is happening is not an ultimatum to the Ministry of Defense. It is a challenge to the state, and against this challenge, we must rally around the national leader: the military, the security forces, the governors and the civilian population.

Patriarch Cyril:

“Praying for a peaceful resolution of the current situation, as the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, I call on those who, having taken up arms in their own hands, are ready to direct them against their brethren, to think again . Faced with a common threat, it is necessary to maintain unity of spirit, to overcome grievances and personal ambitions. As difficult as it can sometimes be. I support the Russian head of state’s efforts to prevent unrest.
