Britain and France have reiterated their determination to ensure that Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine fails.
The British Foreign Secretary said Ukraine’s allies must use their economic resources more effectively to significantly exceed the capabilities of Moscow’s military machine.
Foreign Office chief David Cameron and his French counterpart Catherine Colonna reiterated that Russia should not be allowed to be rewarded for its aggression.
Their comments come as military aid to Kyiv from Ukraine’s largest ally, the United States, is waning.
Speaking after talks with Colonna in Paris, Cameron said that if you add up the size of the economies of Ukraine’s Western partners, then “we will surpass the Russian economy by 25 times or even more.”
“We need to make sure that this economic strength and this commitment pays off,” he said. “If we succeed, I have no doubt that we will be able to ensure that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin loses, and it is very important that he loses.”
Neither Cameron nor Colonna announced new aid to Kyiv in their speech to reporters. They did not answer questions from the press.
“From the very beginning, our two countries have worked hand in hand to ensure that Russian aggression is not rewarded and is defeated,” Colonna said.
