Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Iran ‘doesn’t seek war’ but will fight to defend its sovereignty

Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, confirms that Iran does not seek war, but "will exercise its natural right to self-defense," calling on the Security Council to intervene to stop the Israeli war on Lebanon.

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the Con, said that Iran does not seek war or escalation of tension in the region, but is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any aggression that threatens its vital interests and security.

Amir Saeed Iravani also stressed that Iran will exercise its natural right to self-defense, in full accordance with international law, and will inform the Security Council of its legal response.

Commenting on the war waged by Israel on Lebanon, Iravani said at the emergency session of the Security Council last night: “Thank you, Madam President, for convening this critical emergency meeting. We thank the briefers for their briefings. We extend our deepest sympathy and unwavering solidarity to the government and people of Lebanon who are enduring relentless acts of aggression and war crimes, by the most notorious terrorist regime in the world.” this was published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Iran.

He further stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran stands firmly by Lebanon, is committed to supporting the government, the people, and the resistance, and strongly condemns the continued complicity of the United States, Britain, and some other Western countries in enabling the Israeli entity to commit systematic war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples by providing it with advanced weapons.

Iravani pointed out that the Zionist entity has now begun its, war and genocide against Lebanon, and repeated its brutal campaign against the Palestinian people in Gaza, this time in Lebanon, after more than a year of the genocidal war waged by the Israeli entity in Gaza, in which more than 200,000 people were martyred, wounded or buried under the rubble.

Targeting civilians is a war crime, and the Security Council must intervene

In his speech, Irwani addressed Israeli Forces targeting of civilians and destruction of civilian infrastructure, noting that this is more than just a violation of international law. This is a clear war crime, a crime against humanity, and genocide. He pointed out that the Israeli forces destroyed vital infrastructure, killed innocent civilians, and pushed Lebanon into a deeper humanitarian catastrophe. The entity crossed all red lines and showed that it does not respect international law.

The people of Lebanon are the victims of a systematic campaign of terror and violence, planned by the Israeli entity to cripple this person, weaken their sovereignty, and inflict permanent suffering on them. The Israeli entity has now become a serious threat to international peace and security. Its aggressive actions and continued terror threaten the entire region, and have led the region into a large-scale war, Irwani added.

The Security Council, which is responsible for maintaining international peace and security, cannot remain indifferent to these crimes, as it has a moral and legal obligation to intervene. This institution should not allow the war crimes committed by the Israeli entity under the pretext of self-defense or security, which the representatives of the United States and Britain raise in this Council, to remain unanswered,” he added, considering that “the Israeli entity’s unlimited impunity for its continued violation of international law is a stain on our collective conscience.

He saw that “the insolence of the Israeli entity’s officials has increased thanks to the unconditional support provided by the United States under the name of “tough support”, and their heinous crimes are not only justified, but are also constantly praised, and their atrocities are shamelessly normalized in the eyes of the world, and they count on the support of the United States to continue their terrorist and destructive campaign.”

Israel’s goal is total war

“Although the Lebanese government, including Hezbollah, agreed to a joint proposal for a temporary ceasefire for 21 days, the Israeli entity brazenly rejected it and launched a large-scale attack against Lebanon, mercilessly targeting innocent civilians. The Israeli entity assassinated Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was a prominent figure in the Islamic world and a vital factor for peace and stability in Lebanon, with the aim of destroying any chance of a ceasefire. He was the best remaining hope for advancing the ceasefire process,” Iravani said.

The Iranian ambassador considered “this cowardly assassination another bitter reminder of the previous heinous act carried out by the Israeli entity, which is the assassination of the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, this terrorist act that in fact destroyed any hope for a ceasefire in Gaza,” noting that “these heinous acts show that the Israeli entity has no interest in peace or a ceasefire, and its only real goal is to provoke a comprehensive war throughout the region.”

He pointed out that “Lebanon is on the brink of a humanitarian collapse, and the international community must not allow this tragedy to worsen. It is imperative that humanitarian aid reaches Lebanon without hindrance. The international community must urgently provide the necessary financial and logistical support to ensure that essential supplies reach the affected population.”

He considered that the credibility of the Security Council is in danger, and called for immediate action and a ceasefire, adding: “A ceasefire is not a request, but a necessity.”

Irawani also called on the Security Council to hold the Israeli entity accountable for committing genocide and crimes against the people of Lebanon and Palestine.
