Taliban No More Terrorists – Russia plans to recognize Taliban government in Afghanistan

A bill has been submitted to the State Duma that would allow the Taliban to be excluded from the list of organizations banned (Taliban Ban) in Russia. The document has been published in the database of the legislative activity support system.

The initiative proposes temporarily lifting the ban on the activities of an organization recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation , “if there is factual evidence that such an organization has ceased carrying out activities aimed at promoting, justifying and supporting terrorism or committing crimes.” The ban will be lifted by a court decision based on an application from the Prosecutor General of Russia or his deputy.

However, the banned status may be returned if the organization resumes terrorist activities.

The day before, the Afghan portal Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan “Alemarah” reported that the Secretary General of the National Security Council of the Russian Federation,Sergei Shoigu, acknowledged the political, economic, and security dynamics in Afghanistan. He conveyed Russia’s intention to elevate bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan, indicating plans to remove the Islamic Emirate from Russia’s blacklist (Taliban Ban) to enhance political and economic ties in the near future. The Russian delegation expressed support for the Afghan-Trans project and indicated readiness to initiate practical economic collaborations with Afghanistan, particularly during the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. Russian investors and state-owned enterprises also expressed interest in investing in Afghanistan across sectors like mining, transport, and agriculture.

In October, According to Tolo News “Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced that the Taliban movement is expected to be removed from Russia’s list of terrorist organizations in the near future. He added that efforts toward this goal are already in progress,”

The Taliban declared full control over Afghanistan on August 15, 2021. The Taliban captured all major cities and border crossings in the country. The militants subsequently declared their complete victory in the country and formed a new government.
