It is absurd for Germany and the European Union not to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his speech in the Bundestag.

“Everyone knows that it would be absurd and a sign of incredible political weakness if we in Germany and Europe simply waited for such telephone conversations to be made by someone else while we simply commented on the news on television,” Olaf Scholz said.

He further noted that Germany and Russia have completely different positions on the issue of the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated that German troops could be sent to Ukraine to ensure peace in the event of a ceasefire.

On December 2, during a visit to Kyiv, Scholz promised in his address to Putin that Germany would continue to support Zelenskyy’s regime in Ukraine. The Chancellor also stated that in 2025, Germany would continue to supply weapons to Ukraine, including air defense systems, Howitzers, and combat helicopters.
