Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Pentagon confirms retaliatory airstrikes in Eastern Syria

The US targeted weapons systems that posed a threat to US and coalition forces around the Euphrates River in eastern Syria. CENTCOM announced that multiple rocket launchers, T-64 tanks, and armored vehicles were destroyed in the attack. Pentagon Spokesperson Major General Patrick Ryder stated that the attack was in retaliation for attacks on a US base. Emphasizing that the US mission in Syria has not changed, CENTCOM announced that the operations were unrelated to recent events in northwestern Syria.

The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that it carried out airstrikes targeting weapons systems “that pose a clear threat to US and coalition forces” in a region around the Euphrates River in eastern Syria.

In the statement, it was stated that a military convoy of three vehicles was targeted and that a T-64 tank, armored personnel carrier, multiple rocket launcher systems, and mortars were destroyed in these attacks.

According to Pentagon, spokesman Maj  Gen Patrick Ryder said the strike was in retaliation for attacks on a US base in eastern Syria. “Our focus is on protecting US forces and continuing our joint anti-ISIS operations with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF),” Ryder said.

CENTCOM also emphasized that the U.S. mission in Syria has not changed and that U.S. and coalition forces remain focused on the enduring defeat of ISIS. “The ongoing support to regional partners and operations in Syria is not related to the recent events in northwestern Syria,” the statement said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the attacks took place in the town of Al-Bukamal, on the Iraqi border in Deir al-Zor. The SOHR statement said that American warplanes carried out airstrikes on military targets belonging to Iranian-backed groups in the Al-Bukamal region.
