Apple may finally be preparing the dramatic iPhone redesign fans have waited years to see. Fresh leaks from multiple supply chain reports claim the company is actively testing prototype versions of the rumored iPhone 19 Pro featuring a quad-curved OLED display that wraps around all four sides of the device.

The design, reportedly under evaluation for Apple’s 2027 lineup, would push the iPhone much closer to the all-glass iPhone vision once championed internally by former Apple design chief Jony Ive. Instead of traditional flat edges and visible bezels, the prototype display curves along the left, right, top, and bottom sides, creating a seamless visual appearance.

The leak originated from well-known Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, whose track record on Apple hardware rumors has improved significantly in recent years. According to reports, Apple’s current prototypes still feature a small hole-punch cutout for the front-facing camera, but under-display Face ID sensors are allegedly hidden completely beneath the display panel.

If Apple successfully perfects the technology, it could eliminate the Dynamic Island entirely in future models. Earlier leaks about a smaller Dynamic Island already hinted that Apple was moving toward a cleaner front design.

That would mark the biggest front-facing design change since the launch of the iPhone X in 2017, when Apple introduced the notch and abandoned the Home button. Industry analysts believe the timing is not accidental. The 2027 iPhone lineup will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone, and Apple is widely expected to deliver an iPhone 20 radical redesign similar to what it did with the iPhone X during the device’s 10th anniversary.

Reports suggest Apple is collaborating closely with Samsung Display on advanced OLED panel technology using Color Filter on Encapsulation systems. The goal appears to be shrinking bezels to nearly invisible levels while maintaining durability and display efficiency.

The quad-curved design itself is not entirely new in the smartphone industry. Several Android manufacturers experimented with aggressive curved-edge displays years ago, though many eventually scaled them back due to accidental touch problems, glare, and repair concerns. Apple’s challenge will be finding a balance between futuristic aesthetics and practical usability.

That may explain why the devices remain in prototype testing.

According to several reports, Apple engineers are still struggling with one major obstacle: hiding the selfie camera beneath the display without sacrificing image quality. Existing under-display camera systems used by rival smartphone brands often produce softer images and weaker low-light performance. Apple is reportedly unwilling to compromise camera quality just to achieve a cleaner display design.

As a result, the final commercial version of the iPhone 19 Pro could still include a tiny punch-hole camera while relying on under-display Face ID technology for the rest of the front sensors.

Some analysts believe Apple may even split the technology across multiple models. The standard iPhone 19 Pro and Pro Max could feature quad-curved displays with minimal cutouts, while a separate ultra-premium anniversary model might debut with a truly uninterrupted all-screen design. That possibility aligns with earlier reports surrounding Apple’s Ultra strategy for future flagship hardware.

The timing of the leak also arrives as Apple reportedly accelerates development on other futuristic hardware projects, including Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra. However, separate reports indicate Apple is still battling foldable hinge durability problems, potentially delaying those devices until 2027 or later.

Recent leaks surrounding crease-free display ambitions suggest Apple is determined to avoid the compromises seen in many existing foldable smartphones.

For Apple, the stakes surrounding the 2027 iPhone launch could be enormous.

Recent iPhone generations have faced criticism for offering only incremental visual changes year after year. A radically redesigned iPhone with a quad-curved display, hidden biometric sensors, and nearly invisible bezels could help reignite excitement around Apple’s flagship product line.

At the same time, the company faces significant engineering challenges. Curving the display across all sides could make the device more fragile, increase accidental input issues, and complicate repairs. Apple would also need to redesign parts of iOS to ensure interface elements function naturally along the curved edges.

Questions about long-term durability and foldable iPhone repairability are already becoming major talking points as Apple moves deeper into futuristic hardware concepts.

Still, if the leaks prove accurate, Apple may finally be preparing its boldest iPhone redesign in over a decade.

The vision of a nearly bezel-free iPhone that looks like a single piece of flowing glass has existed in Apple rumors for years. Now, with prototype testing reportedly underway, that future suddenly appears much closer than before.
