MOSCOW – A gas distribution station in the Chernihiv Region was destroyed by a Geran-2 Seeker drone strike carried out by Russian unmanned systems units, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday.
The station was located in the settlement of Hazoprovidne in the Chernihiv Region, according to the ministry’s statement. The Defense Ministry released footage of the strike on what it described as a Ukrainian energy infrastructure facility.
The Geran-2 Seeker is a loitering munition used by Russian forces in strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure. Russia has stepped up its use of drone variants in recent campaigns, with Euronews reporting that Moscow is now deploying jet-powered strike UAVs virtually around the clock, counting on Ukrainian air defense missile stocks being in limited supply. Energy distribution facilities in Ukraine’s northern regions, including Chernihiv Oblast, have been targeted repeatedly during the Russian operation, with strikes on generation, transmission, and distribution nodes affecting gas and power supply across multiple oblasts.
Chernihiv Oblast borders Belarus to the north and Russia’s Bryansk Region to the northeast, placing it within operational range of Russian drone campaigns throughout the conflict. The destruction of a regional gas distribution station affects supplies to civilian users connected to that distribution node. The ministry’s statement did not detail the scope of the damage or report on civilian impact from the loss of the facility. Russian ground operations continue in parallel, with Kremlin officials saying troops will capture the remaining Ukrainian fortified areas in Donetsk.
