MUMBAI — ₹405 is the line that matters for Bharat Electronics, and on Tuesday morning the stock went there for the fourth time this month and came back again.
BEL was quoted at ₹408.40 on the National Stock Exchange at 11:49 IST, down 60 paise or 0.15 percent on Monday’s close of ₹409.00, and at ₹408.30 on the BSE. It opened at ₹407.00, has ranged between ₹405.95 and ₹410.60, and has turned over 49.89 lakh shares, about 37 percent of an average full day. These are live intraday figures from a session that settles at 15:30, and none of them is a closing price.
Seven sessions have now traded inside roughly nine rupees. That is not a stock finding a level. It is a stock waiting for a document. The ₹30,000 crore quick-reaction surface-to-air missile order that most of the analyst community has already put into its earnings estimates still sits somewhere between the Defence Acquisition Council, which cleared it in principle, and the Cabinet Committee on Security, which has not signed it. There is no published date for the signature and the Committee does not run to a disclosed schedule.

| Live intraday figures captured at 11:49 IST on August 25, 2026, about 154 minutes into a session that runs to 15:30. These are last traded prices, not closing prices, and they will change. The BSE reads marginally positive because its Monday close of ₹408.25 was 75 paise below the NSE’s. Valuation ratios, market capitalisation and dividend yield are Screener’s, struck at Monday’s close. | ||
The stock sits 13.7 percent below its twelve-month high and 13.1 percent above its low, an unusually wide band for a company whose most recent quarterly revenue grew a quarter year on year. Nothing Bharat Electronics has reported explains a 14 percent drawdown. What explains it is a calendar that keeps slipping.
The Defence Basket Is Split Again
The easy reading of a quiet morning in BEL is that defence is out of favour. Tuesday’s tape does not support that either.
| Company | Price (₹) | Change so far | Session range (₹) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bharat Dynamics (BDL) | 1,378.50 | +0.77% | 1,361.00 – 1,393.70 |
| BEML | 1,914.20 | -0.04% | 1,902.60 – 1,977.00 |
| Bharat Electronics (BEL) | 408.40 | -0.15% | 405.95 – 410.60 |
| Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders | 2,529.60 | -0.41% | 2,520.00 – 2,574.70 |
| Cochin Shipyard | 1,503.20 | -0.71% | 1,503.00 – 1,522.70 |
| Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) | 4,850.70 | -1.13% | 4,805.00 – 4,890.30 |
| Live NSE intraday figures at 11:49 IST on August 25, 2026. Ranges are the session’s high and low so far and can extend either way before the close. BEL is the third best performer of the six, which is roughly where it sat on Monday. | |||
One of the six is higher and the spread between the best and the worst is 1.9 percentage points, which for this basket is narrow. Hindustan Aeronautics is again the weakest, as it was on Monday, and BEML is carrying the widest intraday range of the group at ₹74. Whatever is moving these stocks is not moving them together.

| Bharat Electronics is listed only in India, so a foreign quote is a data-vendor symbol rather than a separate line of stock. The Government of India holds 51.14 percent of the equity, which caps the free float and makes index funds tracking the Nifty 50 and the Sensex permanent holders of a comparatively small tradeable pool. | ||
Every Target on the Street Is Above the All-Time High
Analyst coverage of Bharat Electronics is dense and almost uniformly positive, which is worth holding at arm’s length rather than treating as confirmation. Every target below is a forward multiple applied to earnings estimates that themselves assume the air defence award lands.
| Brokerage | Rating | Target (₹) | Implied from ₹408.40 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antique Stock Broking | Buy | 532 | +30.3% |
| Motilal Oswal | Buy | 530 | +29.8% |
| Choice Institutional Equities | Buy | 500 | +22.4% |
| Nuvama Research | Buy | 485 | +18.8% |
| JM Financial | Buy | 485 | +18.8% |
| 52-week high, for comparison | – | 473.45 | Below every target above |
| Twelve-month targets published after the July 27 results, not forecasts by The Eastern Herald. Implied upside is calculated against the live price at 11:49 IST on August 25 and moves with it. Several houses had trimmed targets by up to 10 percent earlier in 2026 on award delays; Motilal Oswal raised its target from ₹510 after the quarter even as it cut its margin assumptions. | |||
What stands out is not the average but the unanimity. Five houses, five Buy ratings, and a spread of ₹47 between the highest and the lowest. Then set them against the chart. The cheapest of them, ₹485, sits above ₹473.45, which is the most the stock has been worth at any point in the past twelve months. Every analyst covering Bharat Electronics is asking the market to pay more for it than the market has ever paid. That is not a forecast about the business. It is a forecast about a signature.
The procurement machine has been moving quickly on paper. The Defence Acquisition Council cleared ₹52,000 crore of proposals on July 3, covering anti-drone electronic warfare, medium-range surface-to-air missiles and very short range air defence, much of which would flow to Bharat Electronics and its suppliers. But an acceptance of necessity from the Council is an in-principle administrative approval. It is not a contract, and the Council is not the Cabinet Committee on Security. The distance between those two stages is roughly the distance the share price has fallen.

| NSE closing prices and volumes; the final row is live intraday and not a close. The stock has not closed outside a ₹405 to ₹414 band in seven sessions. | |||
The ₹405 zone has now been tested on August 7, August 10, August 12 and again on Tuesday morning, and it has held on every close. Some of that work is done automatically by index funds tracking the Nifty 50 and the Sensex, which buy a fixed weight regardless of what the order book is doing. Above, ₹414 has behaved like a ceiling through six sessions, and Tuesday’s ₹410.60 did not get near it.
What none of this establishes is when the wait ends. There is no published date for the Cabinet decision and September has already replaced an earlier expectation once. The company has said nothing about the delay and companies rarely do. Shareholders get their first chance to ask in person at the annual meeting later this week, and whether they get an answer with a date attached is the question a ₹408 price is really about.
Elsewhere in Tuesday’s session, Steel Authority of India was up more than three percent on more than twice a full day’s normal volume, Larsen and Toubro was barely trading at all, and the State Bank of India steadied after seven falls in eight sessions. The Nifty 50 was down 0.32 percent.
Procurement figures are drawn from the Ministry of Defence statement on the Defence Acquisition Council meeting of July 3, 2026. Intraday prices and the scrip identifiers were checked against the exchange’s own quote page for scrip 500049.
