Buchel / Berlin – Four German Tornado reconnaissance jets are back in Germany after their mission against the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) has ended. The aircraft landed on Wednesday evening at the Jagel Air Force Base in Schleswig-Holstein and at the Buchel Air Base in Rhineland-Palatinate, as the Air Force announced. The German tornadoes have carried out a total of almost 2,500 mission flights over Iraq and Syria. The Federal Government withdrew the combat aircraft at the urging of the SPD. Plans for the Italian Air Force to take on the role in the anti-IS alliance have not yet been implemented.
