Wiesbaden – The summer semester at the Hessian universities begins on April 20 with only digital offers. This emerges from a joint letter from Hesse’s Minister of Science Angela Dorn (Greens) and the presidents of the universities.
The federal and state science ministers agreed on a unified approach last Friday. The aim is to make the summer semester 2020 as flexible as is necessary in view of the restrictions caused by the corona pandemic but to avoid disadvantages for the students as far as possible.
On this basis, the state of Hesse developed a guideline that should be communicated in the universities on Monday. The basic parameters include, among other things, flexibly postponing the end of the lecture period within the summer semester. Depending on the official instructions, face-to-face events are to take place again during the semester.
Students who are unable to perform all or all of the planned services due to the consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic should not experience any disadvantages. This applies in particular with regard to the regular study times. In addition, flexible regulations should be found in the BAfoG, child benefit or health insurance.
Despite the current restrictions, Hesse’s universities want to offer students as many high-quality offers as possible. Due to ponement of the Abitur exams and in the summer semester, lectures in the winter semester 2020/21 are expected to begin on November 1st.
