Algeria/ TEH: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune discussed, on Monday, with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, the situation in Palestine and the Ukrainian crisis.
This came in a phone call that Tebboune received from Putin, on Monday, according to a statement by the Algerian presidency published on its official account on Facebook.
The statement stated that the two presidents expressed their satisfaction with the development recorded in bilateral cooperation, in all fields.
He added, “The two presidents agreed on the importance of exchanging high-level visits between officials of the two countries, and the upcoming meeting of the joint committee for economic cooperation,” without specifying a date.
Moscow is a strategic ally of Algeria, and the first supplier of weapons and military systems since the country’s independence in 1962.
The statement indicated that Tebboune and Putin exchanged views on the international situation, in light of the developments of the dire situation in Palestine, especially the violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, as well as the Ukrainian crisis.
On Friday, clashes erupted in Al-Aqsa Mosque, after dawn prayers, after the Israeli police stormed its courtyards, which resulted in the injuries to 158 Palestinians, in addition to the arrest of 400 others, according to Palestinian sources.
Algeria condemned, in a statement by its Foreign Ministry, on Friday, “the Israeli attacks against the Palestinians at Al-Aqsa by Israel forces.”
The Foreign Ministry called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to move to put an end to these aggressive provocations and to provide protection for the Palestinian people and their holy places.
On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine , which was followed by angry international reactions and the imposition of “tough” economic and financial sanctions on Moscow.
