The Ukrainian army has confirmed that the city of Lysychansk has fallen into the hands of Russian forces.
– After heavy fighting for Lysychansk, the defense forces of Ukraine were forced to withdraw from their positions and lines – said the main staff of the army.
Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said his forces had captured Lysychansk and taken full control of the Luhansk region.
The Ukrainian General Staff announced that “in order to preserve the lives of Ukrainian fighters, the decision to withdraw was made.”
