ANKARA — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by telephone with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, Anadolu Agency reported.
The Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency announced that Erdogan and Putin discussed the current situation in Ukraine and Syria, along with efforts to establish a safe corridor for grain exports from Black Sea ports.
Erdogan told Putin it was time to act on the United Nations plan to open safe corridors for grain exports from Ukraine — a priority that Turkey has been pressing as global food security concerns mount.
Reiterating his long-standing position, Erdogan said the Russian operation in Ukraine should end through negotiations and with a lasting, just peace. Turkey, he added, is ready to contribute in any way possible to restarting the dialogue.
