Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Joe Biden flies to Poland to personally meet Eastern European ‘hawks’, but he won’t stop by Scholz and Macron

Before leaving, the 80-year-old White House chief underwent a medical examination at Walter Reed Medical Center (Maryland), which his critics in the United States have once again used to make caustic jokes about the age and disability. For example, the former attending physician to the President of the United States (2013-2018) Ronnie Jackson is convinced that the “White House is hiding the truth” about Biden’s mental health, since the published conclusion does not say so. And former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, nominated for the 2024 election, has called for politicians over 75 to take a mental capacity test. The White House has called it all innuendo against Biden. His attending physician, Kevin O’Connor, concluded by calling the president “a healthy, vigorous 80-year-old man capable of carrying out his duties.” Among Biden’s issues, he called a frequent cough, for which he takes medication, and an “unfree gait.”Joe Biden in Poland to allocate new military assistance to Ukraine, discuss militarization of Eastern EuropeNonetheless, Biden’s European trip hasn’t been loaded with travel. According to White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, the president will not travel to countries other than Poland.Warsaw authorities have warned citizens that the streets will be blocked due to the procession of the foreign guest, so it is better to refuse to travel by car and switch to public transport. In the Polish capital, Biden will check into a Marriott hotel, where US leaders typically stay when visiting Warsaw. On Tuesday, Biden will meet with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda, and on Wednesday he will speak with the heads of the Nine countries in Bucharest (Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Estonia). According to the White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, this is intended to show support for the countries on NATO’s eastern flank and the willingness to allocate resources for its military reinforcement. One of the main topics of the meeting with Eastern European colleagues for Biden will be the provision of further military assistance to Kiev.At the same time, the head of the White House will not visit Ukraine itself, and there are no plans to meet with its President Vladimir Zelenskyyy during his stay in Poland, although such a possibility has been actively discussed in the press western. The geography of Biden’s trip is telling. After moving to the Old World across the Atlantic, he will hold meetings with Eastern European hawks, but waste no time in shaking hands with traditional allies – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz or President French Emmanuel Macron. As specified at the White House, the American president will limit himself to telephone conversations with colleagues from Great Britain, Italy and France between now and the anniversary of February 24. And he will receive the German Chancellor at the White House on March 3.In the coming days, Biden, according to the White House, plans to deliver a speech on the conflict in Ukraine, while addressing the Russian president and his citizens. He already tried to use such a technique in February last year, when he said from the White House: “I appeal to the Russian people – you are not our enemy.” Since then, the Biden administration has become Ukraine’s main military sponsor, sending it tens of billions of dollars worth of weapons to fight the Russian military. At the same time, the White House does not hide that this is done in an attempt to defeat Russia or achieve its weakening.
