G7 financial leaders will meet on Thursday to discuss measures against Russia that would pressure it to end the war in Ukraine, Japanese Finance Minister Sunichi Suzuki said.
Japan will chair a meeting of G7 finance ministers and central bankers in Bangalore, India.
The meeting will take place on the eve of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine .
The war continues despite a number of restrictive measures against Russia taken by G7 countries and other states.
“Support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia will be the main topics of discussion,” Suzuki told a news conference. “We will continue to work closely with the G7 and the international community to strengthen sanctions in order to achieve the ultimate goal of encouraging Russia to withdraw from Ukraine.”
