Subsequent to the calamitous earthquake, President Erdogan declared the institution of the Catastrophe Management Authority within the framework of the Presidency of the Republic.

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced during a meeting "National Risk Shield" He expressed his government’s intention to establish the Disaster Management Policy Authority within the structure of the Presidency of the Republic, in light of making Turkey one of the fastest, most effective and prepared countries in responding to disasters in this field, according to the network. The president’s statement came within a speech delivered by the Turkish president during the conclusion of the meeting "National Risk Shield"which was held yesterday, Friday, in Istanbul, and he said that "The February 6th earthquake marked the beginning of new anti-disaster policies. One of our priorities during this period is the establishment of the Disaster Management Policy Authority, to be the tenth body of the Presidency of the Republic."

added: " This body will allow us to monitor all the work carried out in the various fields and institutions within the presidency, and to intervene when necessary to confront natural disasters."

Erdogan also reaffirmed the need to strengthen the state’s preparations to combat earthquakes and disasters, and the ability to overcome them with the least possible human and material losses, noting that this concern for readiness prompted the government to develop a comprehensive strategy to confront disasters, according to TRT Arabic.


The Turkish president indicated that the government is working to help the affected people, as nearly 400,000 homes will be built in the affected areas, as the competent authorities started, less than a month after the disaster, to build the first home units in the affected areas.

On February 6, southern Turkey and northern Syria were hit by two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6, followed by thousands of violent aftershocks, and the number of people affected by it is estimated at more than 25 million people in Turkey and Syria, according to DW.
