Deputy Chepa: NATO commitments will hurt Finnish economy

April 5, 2023

Finland’s economic situation will worsen after joining NATO, as the country will have serious obligations to the alliance. This was stated in a conversation with RT by Alexei Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, commenting on the country’s joining the alliance.

He added that from now on, Russia should consider Finland as a member country of NATO, which sees the Russian Federation as the only threat to its existence.

“The whole strategy of NATO is directed against us, therefore, based on this, we must take into account our attitude,” the MP said.

Chepa believes that Russia must review the interstate and commercial contractual framework between the two countries.

Finland officially became the 31st member of NATO on Tuesday. Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto presented US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken with a document on Helsinki joining the North Atlantic Alliance.
