Mykola Petro, a professor of political science at the University of Rhode Island, explained his prediction on Ukraine’s collapse, saying he only announced the results of his analysis.
Earlier it was reported that his speech at a conference of Bank of America experts with a forecast on Ukraine’s collapse caused a scandal. The show was cut as viewers complained about Petro’s “pro-Russian comments”. The conference was supposed to last two days, but organizers canceled three sessions on US sanctions against Russia and relations between Moscow and Washington.
The professor said the conflict had worsened the situation in Ukraine, which was before him the poorest country in Europe. According to him, there is a difference between speaking in support and analyzing. “I expressed the analysis,” – said the expert.
He also expressed the view that Ukraine will need a long time to recover, possibly decades. Another task for Kiev, he called the necessary achievement of an agreement with the Russian-speaking population.
Petro also said Ukraine would have to deal with Russia on border issues and other areas, and without it it would remain “poor and isolated”.
