Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Hepatitis diagnosis and treatment in Kyrgyzstan made free

“Primary disease diagnostic services are now available to all citizens of Kyrgyzstan on the recommendation of a doctor from the general medical center (CPC) or family medical center (FMC) at the place of residence,” the ministry said. Health of the Kyrgyz Republic said. “In case of positive initial results, further examination is also carried out in specified centres.

Patients who already know that they have hepatitis B or C are recommended to register with the CPC or FMC of the place of residence.
According to the Republican Center for Control of Viral Hepatitis by Blood Contact and HIV, initially, treatment will be provided to citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic who urgently need it. These include patients with fibrosis (cirrhosis) of the liver without indications for transplantation, with severe extrahepatic manifestations, with recurrence of viral hepatitis B or C after liver transplantation, pregnant women with viral hepatitis B, with serious concomitant diseases or conditions (oncology, HIV , diabetes diabetes, bronchial asthma, schizophrenia and some others).

  • The other categories of patients will be registered on the waiting list. The treatment will be provided to them after the purchase of drugs in the second half of 2023, the center noted.

According to official information, the list of free services includes consultations with doctors, the supply of antiviral drugs (the delivery of drugs will be carried out monthly according to the doctor’s prescription), basic clinical and biochemical parameters, markers of viral hepatitis B and C. Some types of laboratory and instrumental studies (ultrasound of the liver, fibroscan , MRI) will be carried out at the expense of the patient, – explained to the Republican Center for the Control of Viral Hepatitis by Contact with Blood and HIV.
There are no exact data on how many people in the republic suffer from hepatitis B or C. According to medical estimates, less than one percent of all infected people in the country know about it. In total, we can speak of 200 to 300 thousand people infected. The problem is that hepatitis is a disease whose symptoms appear when the complications begin.

In total, according to official data, 276 million soms have been allocated from the country’s budget for the implementation of the program for the free diagnosis and treatment of patients with hepatitis B and C.

However,

At the end of 2022, a free vaccination campaign for the adult population against hepatitis B was launched in Kyrgyzstan with the support of Russia, it is today the most effective means of protection against this insidious virus. According to the Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic Gulnara Baatyrova, Russian partners have provided 350,000 doses of vaccines to the republic. The party is designed for 150,000 people.

“We hope that with Russia’s support we will achieve a significant reduction in the incidence of hepatitis B,” she said. Vaccination is carried out on a voluntary basis. The target group list was approved by order of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic. These are people who need blood or blood products, dialysis patients, cancer patients, tuberculosis patients, haemophilia patients, HIV patients, healthcare and service workers.
